Account, Connection & Billing Help

VPN86 FAQs

Identify where the issue occurs, then check your account, configuration, and route.

Expand a category to see its answers. For your first setup, start with the Guides. For prices and data allowances, see plan details. Change one condition at a time while troubleshooting, and keep any error messages to help narrow down the cause.

Account & Subscriptions

Understand the difference between your account, client, and subscription before troubleshooting device changes or updates.

Do I need an email address to create an account?

No email address is required. Create an account with a username and password. Keep your credentials safe, use a unique password, and sign out after using a public device. Your account lets you manage plans, access subscriptions, and submit support tickets. Never share your login details with someone offering to configure your service. If you have trouble accessing your account, use the help option in the user panel. Avoid creating multiple accounts, which can split your orders and subscriptions. Not needing an email address does not mean you can use an arbitrary password; you will need the correct account details to sign in later.

Do I need to choose a new plan when I switch devices?

No. You don’t need a different plan when switching devices, and VPN86 has no limit on the number of devices connected at the same time. Sign in to your existing account on the new device, get a compatible client, and import your existing subscription. Client interfaces vary by device, and you may need to grant network permissions separately on each one. The device limit refers to the number of connected devices; it does not give each device a separate data allowance. Check usage in your account panel, and don’t share your subscription as a public link.

How do I update my subscription link? Do I need to import it again afterward?

Sign in to the user panel and check your plan status. Then open the subscription or configuration manager in your client and update the subscription you’ve already imported. A routine update fetches the route list again using the existing link; you usually don’t need to delete and reimport the configuration. If your subscription link was reset in the panel, stop using the old one. Get the new link from the panel and replace the saved address in your client. After updating, check which configuration is active so you don’t end up connected through an old one despite having downloaded the latest list.

Where can I get the client and subscription?

Get both from the user panel. Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux are supported. You can sign in and download a client for Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux; on iOS, an active plan is required to access the download link. Sign in to get your subscription, then import it using the client’s import option. The client establishes the connection, while the subscription provides the route configuration for your account; they are separate files. Don’t download software from links in unfamiliar messages or paste your subscription link into a public online converter.

What should I do if I shared my subscription link or it appears in a screenshot?

Treat your subscription link like account credentials: anyone who has it may be able to import the configuration on their device. If it has been exposed, sign in to the user panel and look for the subscription reset option. If you’re unsure how to proceed, ask for help through a support ticket. After changing the link, update the saved subscription on each of your devices. A routine refresh won’t replace an old link with the new one. When sending screenshots or describing an issue, include only the error details needed and hide the full subscription link, account credentials, and sensitive order information.

Connection & Troubleshooting

Check your local network first, then review your configuration, system permissions, and app routing.

The client says it’s connected, but websites won’t load. What should I check first?

Disconnect the client and make sure your local network can access the internet. Reconnect, then check that you’ve selected a valid configuration and route. The connection icon only shows the tunnel status; it doesn’t mean every app is being routed correctly. Check whether another proxy is enabled in your system, whether your browser has its own proxy settings, and whether the client has the necessary network permissions. Try another route and check the same website. Change one setting at a time to help identify whether the issue is with your local network, route, or app rules.

Why does my browser work, but an app won’t use the proxy?

Apps may use different network paths. A browser using the system proxy doesn’t mean other apps use the same settings; some apps need the client’s system VPN or tunnel mode to route their traffic. Check whether the app is set to connect directly by your routing rules, then look for app-specific proxy settings, a separate DNS configuration, or other network extensions. Read the client’s instructions before changing modes, and fully quit and reopen the app afterward. Your account status or regional rules for the service may also affect access, so a successful connection alone may not explain the issue.

What should I do if a subscription update fails or the route list is empty?

First check your account and plan status in the user panel. Make sure you imported the full subscription link, not a sign-in page or text truncated when copied from a chat app. If you reset the subscription earlier, use the new link. Check that your client supports the subscription format provided in the panel, then try updating again. Keep your existing configuration for comparison; there’s no need to clear all settings before troubleshooting. If the update still fails, note the error, client name, operating system, and steps that led to the failure, then submit a support ticket. Don’t include your full subscription link.

What should I do if my Android connection drops when the screen locks or won’t reconnect after switching networks?

Check whether your system restricts background activity for the client. Adjust your device settings to allow the necessary background activity, and make sure the client still has VPN permission. Battery-saving settings, network changes, and other network tools can affect the connection, so reinstalling the app shouldn’t be your first step. After switching networks, disconnect and reconnect to establish a new session. If the issue only occurs on one Wi-Fi network, compare with another trusted network. Change background settings only for the client you use; don’t disable unrelated system security features to troubleshoot a connection.

What information should I include in a connection support ticket?

Submit a ticket through the user panel. Include your operating system, client name, current route, network environment, and whether the issue occurs during import, update, connection, or app access. Describe the steps needed to reproduce it and attach a screenshot of the error if useful. Mention if the issue changes when you switch routes or networks. This comparison makes it easier to identify the cause than simply saying you can’t connect. Before sending, hide your password, full subscription link, and other sensitive information. The error text is enough; don’t share your entire client configuration.

Speeds & Routes

Choose routes based on how your apps perform, and distinguish response latency from throughput and session stability.

How can I troubleshoot video buffering or interrupted AI sessions during peak hours?

Pause bandwidth-heavy tasks on your other devices, then compare routes using the same app and content. This helps distinguish route issues from competition for bandwidth on your local network. Peak hours can bring congestion on access networks or cross-border links, and restarting an app may not change the route. Once you choose a candidate route, observe how it performs instead of switching repeatedly during a session. Video buffering, webpage response times, and persistent AI connections depend on different factors. Judge the route by whether your target app remains usable, and include the time and route name in your support ticket.

Which regions are available, and how do I choose a route?

VPN86 covers 120+ countries with 230+ routes. Check the user panel for the currently available regions and routes. Narrow down your options based on the region required by your target service, then compare how they perform on your network. A nearby location doesn’t necessarily mean a shorter network path. For everyday use, keep a route that works well and switch to an alternative if problems arise. If a service has regional requirements, check its account and usage rules too; a route’s location does not determine whether you’re eligible to use that service.

Does low latency mean faster downloads and smoother video?

Not necessarily. Latency measures round-trip response time, while throughput also depends on link capacity, packet loss, congestion, and the destination service. Local Wi-Fi interference can affect results too. When choosing a route, consider webpage response, uninterrupted playback, and session stability instead of ranking routes by a single number. For a fair comparison, use the same device, network, and app, and pause background tasks. A brief test can reveal obvious problems, but it can’t predict long-term performance—and displayed figures are not guaranteed speeds.

What’s the difference between direct, relayed, and dedicated routes?

These names describe the route path, not a guaranteed level of app performance. A direct route typically has fewer intermediate hops; a relayed route uses additional nodes to shape the path; and a dedicated route emphasizes how link resources and transmission paths are arranged. Results vary with your access network, time of day, and destination, so a label alone can’t tell you which route will be faster. Check the route types currently listed in the panel and test them with your target app. For more on how topology, congestion, and protocols relate, see the protocol reference. You don’t need to change every client setting when switching routes.

Can switching protocols fix every slowdown?

Not every slowdown is caused by the protocol. Protocols affect connection setup, transmission, and client compatibility, but local network congestion, problems with the destination service, or route issues can produce similar symptoms. Start with a configuration supported by your client and provided through your subscription. Keep other conditions unchanged while comparing. If switching protocols fixes the issue on one network but not another, note the difference for troubleshooting. Don’t copy a full set of advanced settings from an unfamiliar guide. Leave uncertain settings at their defaults, and describe your specific setup in a support ticket if needed.

Billing & Refunds

Check billing methods and data rules. Handle order-related questions through your original account.

How much does a monthly plan cost, and when does data reset?

Monthly plans are ¥9.9/month for 60GB, ¥18/month for 250GB, and ¥28/month for 500GB. Data resets monthly on the date your plan starts, not on the first of each calendar month. Check your remaining data and plan status in the user panel. When choosing a plan, consider your usual video streaming, file transfers, and AI tool use rather than just the number of devices. There’s no limit on simultaneous devices, but data usage is still subject to your selected plan. See the plans page for full pricing details.

How is a data pack different from a monthly plan?

Data packs cost ¥158 for 300GB, ¥358 for 1000GB, and ¥658 for 3000GB. They last until used and never expire; monthly plan data resets each month on the date the plan starts. The two options suit different usage patterns, so don’t compare a data pack price directly with a monthly fee. If you use the service occasionally, consider whether you want data to remain available long term. For regular use, consider your monthly usage. If you’re switching between products or unsure which one is used first, check the panel and confirm through a support ticket rather than assuming data from different products is combined automatically.

How is the price difference handled if I upgrade my plan partway through?

The price difference for a mid-cycle upgrade is converted into the remaining days. Before proceeding, review the target plan, charge, and updated validity shown in the user panel. An upgrade does not give you an extra full billing period. Since the details depend on your account status, keep your order information and ask through a support ticket if anything is unclear rather than placing multiple orders. After the upgrade, check your plan in the panel and update your client subscription; don’t rely on cached client information to determine whether the change has taken effect.

Which payment methods are supported, and what should I do if my plan doesn’t appear after payment?

Alipay, WeChat Pay, and USDT are supported. Start the order process from the user panel and verify the payment details shown for your order. If your plan status hasn’t updated after payment, first confirm the payment is complete, then refresh your order and account status. This helps avoid repeating an action because the page is showing outdated information. If the payment still isn’t matched, submit a support ticket with your order details and necessary proof of payment, hiding any information not needed for verification. Don’t send money to an address provided in an unfamiliar message, and don’t assume your order has been processed based only on a payment screenshot in a chat.

How do I request a refund, and what information do I need?

VPN86 offers a 30-day no-questions-asked refund. Sign in to your original account and submit a refund request through the support ticket option in the user panel. Include the order you want addressed and the details of your request so your account and payment records can be checked. See the Terms of Service for applicable refund information. Submitting a request is different from independently reversing a payment through your payment provider. If the order status looks wrong, attach necessary proof with sensitive details hidden. Check the ticket for updates; this page makes no separate promise about processing time and you don’t need to provide your full subscription link to request a refund.
