Public IP & connection check

See where this request is connecting from. Check again after connecting through a route to compare your public IP, then review your DNS settings.

What these results mean

First, check whether your public IP matches what you expect, then compare it with your client’s connection status. A single detection label can’t tell you how the whole device is connected.

Compare your public IP and location

Your public IP is the request source seen by this site. Country and region are based on an IP database, not your device’s precise location. Database updates and address assignments can affect accuracy.

Note the result before connecting, then check again afterward. With split tunneling, requests to this site may still use your local network. An unchanged public IP doesn’t necessarily mean the client isn’t connected.

Understanding your ISP

ISP usually refers to the provider or network organization associated with your public IP. After connecting through a route, the result may show a data center or egress network rather than the provider you normally use to access the internet.

Consider the ISP name alongside the selected region. By itself, it doesn’t indicate route speed, congestion or which services you can access.

Proxy detection isn’t connection status

The proxy field reports what this interface detected; it isn’t a client connection toggle. “No proxy detected” means only that the interface didn’t identify relevant characteristics. It doesn’t mean every app is using the same public IP.

Unavailable fields are marked separately and aren’t treated as “No.” This check doesn’t perform a complete leak test for DNS, other address families or other apps.

DNS leak checks

This page checks your public IP; it doesn’t automatically test the DNS resolution path. A changed public IP alone doesn’t show that DNS is being routed through your connection.

Check each step, from your client to your browser

  1. Check your client’s DNS mode. Confirm that the client is connected and see whether DNS is handled by the client in the current mode. Split-tunnel and global modes may use different resolution paths, so check the rules that are actually enabled.
  2. Check your browser’s Secure DNS settings. Your browser may use its own encrypted DNS. Compare its settings with your client’s guidance to make sure they work together. A resolver associated with a different region than your public IP doesn’t, by itself, indicate a leak.
  3. Check your system and other network tools. See whether system DNS, network extensions or other proxy tools are also handling connections. When troubleshooting, change one setting at a time and keep a record of the original settings so you can identify the cause.
  4. Verify with actual DNS records. If your client provides DNS logs, check that the domain you’re testing used the expected resolver and rules. You can also use a trusted, dedicated testing tool to identify the resolver in use. Read its privacy policy before testing.

If your public IP or DNS results don’t look right, review the Guides to check your connection steps, or troubleshoot split tunneling and connection issues in the FAQ. For further help, submit the details and your client mode through a support ticket.

Queries & privacy

Queries aren’t logged. Your browser only contacts this site’s public IP lookup interface. If it’s unavailable, you’ll see a notice; the page won’t switch to a third-party public API.

Results are copied to your clipboard only when you select Copy. Your public IP is a network identifier, so consider obscuring any unnecessary details before sharing a screenshot or sending results to someone. See the Privacy Policy for information on how privacy is handled.

This page isn’t a complete privacy audit. If the interface is unavailable, the database lacks a field or proxy characteristics can’t be identified, don’t interpret missing results as proof that your connection is working properly or your privacy is protected.
